Because urban poverty
is multidimensional, various vulnerabilities faced by the poor in cities and
towns, such as occupational, residential, and social, must be addressed
concurrently in a comprehensive and integrated manner, with a targeted focus on
vulnerable groups, in order to have a positive impact on the ground.
Residential vulnerability is addressed through programs such as the Pradhan
Mantri Awas Yojana (Urban). The other two vulnerabilities, occupational and
social, can be addressed most effectively by providing opportunities for skill
development leading to market-based employment and assisting them in
establishing self-employment ventures.
Skill development and
easy access to credit are essential components of urban poverty alleviation
programs. In this context, a mission-mode approach to urban livelihoods is
considered necessary & is achieved through DAY-NULM.
699732 urban poor
women have been organized into a total of 58311 SHGs through 1433 registered
Area Level Federation & 9 City Level Federations. There are currently 69
active City Livelihood Centers that help urban youth with their daily
livelihoods.
The Full Form of SUDA
is State Urban Development Agency and encourages urban development initiatives
in urban areas with improved urban governance for effective citizen-centered
services for livable, clean, green, and hygienic environments.
