B.Sc ( Interior Design )


Course Structure

B.Sc. Interior Design provides knowledge of principles of design and design elements and understanding of psychology of colors. The students are given exercises which helps them develop creative and innovative thinking, which is the most vital asset for achieving success in the field of design.

Delivery method of the program includes classroom lectures, studio works, design competitions, exhibitions, creative workshops, project reports, market surveys and internships for practical experience of the design world.

Interior Design course structure educate students about the technical ways of building functional and comfortable spaces for the ease of all individuals.


Subjects in the syllabus of B.Sc. Interior Design have topics which cover proper understanding of 3D and 2D Composition with skills of precise size judgement, latest designs and innovations with in depth material knowledge. Drawing technical figures a main topic of interior design:


Topics Covered


Introduction to Design

Definitions and meaning of design, Importance of design. Examples of design from nature. Fundamental elements of design in 2-D and their definitions; point, line, shape, form, space, texture, value, color and material, Introduction to the principles of design in 2- D and 3-D - unity, balance, symmetry proportion, scale, hierarchy, rhythm, contrast, harmony, focus, use of grids, creating repetitive patterns.

The main objective of the course is to impart knowledge about the interior design solutions and architectural knowledge.

Concepts of geometry

 Introduction to different 3-D forms and primitive forms, shapes and understand the behavior when combined. Transformations of 2-D to 3-D.

Objective of this subject is to make students familiar with 2D and 3D geometrical figures.

Color Psychology

Introduction – Physics, physiology and psychology of colors – visible spectrum, colored light, color temperature, color interaction, color blindness. Color Systems: Munsell, Ostwald, DIN, CIE, OAS, Kupper, Gerritsen, NCS, Color aid system, and color systems in practice, simplified color system, color terminology, special color issues, mixed color effects, effects of texture, using color systems, Problems with color. Use of color in various functional contexts – Residential interiors, Non Residential interiors. Use of color in special situations – out door/indoor spaces, accessories, art works etc.

Students learn about the colors, their attributes and psychological effects on a person’s mind.

Color Wheel

Primary, secondary, tertiary colors, color wheel, color schemes color value, intensity, and modification of color hues – tints, shades, neutralization. Color charts – types, making and using. Color harmony, use of color harmony.

Types of color its uses and applications.

Creativity And Problem Solving

Definitions of creativity, Thinking techniques, Tools and techniques of creativity,

The objectives of the subject is to develop creative and problem solving skills.

Introduction To Art And Interior Design

Purpose and relevance of Art, Development of art, Exploration of art forms, Study of ornament in Interior Design, Introduction to Heritage Interiors, Industrial Revolution and its influence on society and culture, Various elements of society, General understanding of Interior Design and integration with architecture,

The main objective of the subject is to provide detailed information about art and design including historical studies of design.

Design Drawing And Graphics

Introduction to pencil exercises, Simple exercises of object drawings, Fundamentals of drawing and its practice, Architectural symbols, Measuring and drawing to scale, Interiors and furniture sketching, Building Geometry

Subject teaches different drawing techniques and graphical figures.

Interior Design Materials And Applications

Masonry, Timber, cane, bamboo, Wood, Paints, Varnishes (oil and spirit)

Subject provides knowledge of the materials used in interiors and exteriors.

Communication Skills

Orientation for improving the skills of grammar, Written Skills, Formal letters and specifications

Improving verbal and non-verbal skills is the main objective of this subject.

WORKSHOP (Ceramics – Clay/ Plaster Of Paris)

Introduction to model making, Introduction to the Ceramic materials used for model making, Hand building techniques, Introduction to molds

Model making using P.O.P and different types of moulds is taught to the students.

Space Planning

Basic anthropometrics, Introduction to design methodology, Problem statements

Concepts of space planning are taught in this subject.
